Compare against your carrier's international option

US carriers sell international day passes or travel add-ons, and the daily price, data cap and speed limits differ by carrier and by plan. Turkey is outside the EU and EEA, so ask your carrier whether Türkiye is included, what it costs per day and what happens after the cap.

Volt Mobile sells fixed prepaid plans in euros instead of per-day charges: 1 GB for 7 days at €1.39, 3 GB for 15 days at €3.99, 5 GB for 30 days at €6.99, 10 GB for 30 days at €9.99 and 20 GB for 30 days at €22.99. The card charge is converted by your bank, so the dollar amount can differ slightly. This page does not quote any carrier's price; compare on the day you book.

Check that your iPhone or Android is carrier-unlocked

A carrier-locked phone cannot install a third-party eSIM. On an iPhone, open Settings, then General, then About, and look for Carrier Lock: it should read No SIM restrictions. On Android, the setting name varies by brand, so ask your carrier or check the phone's SIM lock status.

If you still pay off the phone, your carrier may need to unlock it first, which can take time. Check this days before the trip, not at the gate.

Install by QR before departure, then switch on after landing

After verified payment, the QR code and installation details appear in your Volt Mobile account. Install the profile on home Wi-Fi, label it Turkey, and keep it off until you land at Istanbul Airport (IST) or reach Cappadocia, where Nevşehir Kapadokya (NAV) and Kayseri Erkilet (ASR) are the two airports.

Keep your US SIM for calls and SMS if you need them: the Turkey plans are data only and include no Turkish phone number. Turn off data roaming on the US line so the phone uses the eSIM for data.

Which plan fits an American itinerary

A long weekend in Istanbul with maps and messaging usually fits the 1 GB plan if you use Wi-Fi at the hotel; two weeks with navigation and video calls is closer to the 10 GB plan. The roaming calculator page turns trip days and daily use into a plan suggestion.

Networks are the supplier listing, Vodafone 5G and Türk Telekom 5G (the 5 GB plan lists Vodafone 5G only). Coverage varies by place and building, and cave hotels in Cappadocia can have weaker indoor signal.
