Istanbul arrival guide: get data working before you leave the airport

Turkey eSIM plans

Airports and areas covered by this guide

Istanbul has two airports, Istanbul Airport (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW). Install and test the eSIM before you queue for a taxi or a train, because transfers depend on maps and ride apps.

Typical first stops are Sultanahmet, Beyoğlu and Galata on the European side and Kadıköy on the Asian side.

Before you fly

Check that the phone supports eSIM and is not carrier-locked, then buy the plan while you still have a stable connection. The QR code and activation details appear in your Volt Mobile account after verified payment and fulfillment.

Install the profile at home or in the departure lounge, keep data roaming off for your home SIM and switch the eSIM line on after landing.

Getting from the airport

From IST, use the M11 metro or Havaist coaches. From SAW, use the M4 metro or Havabus coaches. Check your onward connections for Sultanahmet, Beyoğlu/Galata and Kadıköy with the relevant operator.

Keep the eSIM line as your data line and leave the home SIM for calls and SMS if you need them.

Which plan to pick

The 1 GB plan lasts 7 days and suits a short stay with maps and messages. The 3 GB plan lasts 15 days. The 5 GB, 10 GB and 20 GB plans last 30 days. Use the roaming cost calculator page to estimate allowance from trip length and daily use.

The Turkey plans are data only. No Turkish phone number or calling allowance is included, and the free trial is available for Albania only.

Network availability

Plan details updated 2026-10-17. Network reception and speeds vary with your location, phone and local conditions. Check eSIM compatibility before purchase.

The 5 GB plan supports Vodafone 5G only; the others list Vodafone 5G and Türk Telekom 5G. Speed, signal and indoor coverage vary by place, building and device.
