5 things to know before buying a Turkey eSIM

Choose your Turkey eSIM with confidence: understand website access, top-ups, activation, calls and the phone-registration question before you pay.

1. Prepare access before you travel

Buy and install over reliable Wi-Fi before departure. Save your order reference, account details and installation instructions somewhere you can open offline. Keep your QR code private. Preparation is useful because access to some international eSIM websites and apps has been restricted in Turkey.

A website that will not open is not proof that an installed eSIM has stopped providing data. Test a different small website with Wi-Fi off before changing the eSIM settings. If other sites work, investigate access to the specific service rather than deleting the profile.

2. Choose enough data for the whole trip

Start with your recent phone usage, then account for maps, uploads and any laptop sharing you expect on holiday. The lowest entry price is useful for light use; it is not automatically the right choice for a working trip. Download maps and tickets before departure and keep large backups on Wi-Fi.

Volt offers 1 GB for 7 days, 3 GB for 15 days, and 5, 10 or 20 GB for 30 days. Hotspot devices share that same allowance. An existing eSIM can only be topped up if it is eligible and a suitable option is available; do not base your trip on an assumed future refill.

3. Installation does not start the current Volt Turkey plans

For the current Volt Turkey packages, validity starts on the first connection to a supported network in Turkey, not when you download the profile on Wi-Fi. You can prepare the installation before departure. Landing the aircraft is not the technical trigger: connecting to the network is.

Once activated, turning the line off does not pause its validity. Check the instructions supplied with your purchased package, especially if you are comparing a different provider’s activation terms.

4. Keep your number; use the eSIM for internet

These packages are data-only: no Turkish number, ordinary call minutes or SMS allowance. WhatsApp and other internet-based calling apps can use the data connection without replacing your existing number. Availability depends on the app and connection.

Bank verification texts still go to the telephone line registered with the bank. Keep that line available if needed, turn its data roaming off and ask your home operator about incoming SMS and call charges. Receiving a text is not guaranteed to be free on every tariff.

5. Long stays need a separate device check

Turkey’s regulator publishes registration rules for devices brought from abroad, including a 120-day unregistered-use period. Do not assume that buying a travel eSIM automatically exempts your phone. Check the official guidance if you are staying for months or returning with a previously used device.

For a short trip, prioritise an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone and the right allowance. For a long stay, resolve the device’s eligibility before committing to more data. A new package cannot be promised to remove an IMEI restriction.

Ready to choose your connection?

Choose 1 GB when you want a light-use, seven-day starting option with Wi-Fi available. Compare 10 GB for more room over a longer trip or hotspot use. Choose by your own consumption rather than a promise of a fixed number of browsing hours.

The 1, 3, 10 and 20 GB plans offer access to Vodafone and Türk Telekom; 5 GB uses Vodafone only. Two supported networks give you another option where available, not double speed or simultaneous connections. Compare the live catalog offers below.

One eSIM. Two network options for your Turkey trip.

Explore Turkey with access to Vodafone and Türk Telekom on our 1, 3, 10 and 20 GB plans. Unlike a single-network package, you have another supported network to select where available if reception on one is poor. Choose the flexibility of two networks for your journey, or our 5 GB Vodafone-only option.

Enjoy 5G where available on a compatible phone, with 4G and 3G connectivity according to local coverage. Pick your GB, see your final EUR price and install before you fly. Network choice gives you flexibility; actual speeds depend on your location, device and network conditions.
